AI phone answering · UK takeaways

The phone keeps ringing. Awaaz takes the order.

When the fryers are full and there's a queue at the counter, nobody's free to pick up. Awaaz answers your takeaway's phone in natural British English, takes the collection order item by item, reads it back with the total and sends it straight to your WhatsApp.

Collection order: burger mealSample call in British English
Awaaz (AI)Hello, thanks for calling Demo Chicken. What can I get for you today?
CallerHi, can I get a chicken burger meal and six nuggets?
Awaaz (AI)Lovely. Would you like the burger with our spicy sauce?
CallerYes please.
Awaaz (AI)So that's one chicken burger meal with spicy sauce and six nuggets, ten pounds fifty altogether. Is that right?
CallerYeah, that's it. It's for James.
Awaaz (AI)Thanks James. That'll be ready to collect in about ten minutes. Bye for now!

Awaaz by OMA Tech Studio is an AI receptionist that answers phone orders for takeaways, chicken shops, pizza shops, kebab houses and chippies. It speaks natural British English, takes collection orders item by item, reads the whole order back with the total in pounds, gives a ready time and sends every order to the owner on WhatsApp. It only uses the menu and prices you give it. Pricing for UK shops is quoted in pounds after a short call.

What callers ask, and what Awaaz does.

Most takeaway calls are orders. The rest are the same handful of questions, asked while you're busiest. Here's how Awaaz handles each one.

“Are you open?”

Gives your opening hours for today. If you're closed, it says when you open next, so the caller isn't left guessing.

“Do you deliver?”

Answers from your setup. If you only do collection, it says so politely and points the caller to Just Eat, Uber Eats or Deliveroo, whichever you're on, instead of taking a delivery order.

“What's in the family bucket?”

Reads out exactly what's in it and the price, from the menu you've given it. It won't make up an item or a price that isn't on your menu.

“Can I get two 12-inch pizzas on the deal?”

Takes each pizza's toppings, applies your multi-pizza deal price and adds any sides. Then it reads the order back and gives a ready time of around 20 minutes for pizza.

“Is this halal? Is it nut-free?”

Halal: it only answers if you've told it what to say. Allergies: it never promises a dish is free from anything. It takes the caller's details and sends your team a callback request.

“Can I change my order?”

Takes the change, reads the new order and total back to the caller, and sends you the updated order on WhatsApp so the kitchen isn't working from the old one.

Every order on your phone, before it hits the fryer.

Each order lands on your WhatsApp and in your dashboard with the customer's name, number, items, total and collection time. We already have the caller's number from the call, so Awaaz only needs to ask for a name.

Anything that needs a person comes through in red: allergy questions, complaints and callers who want to speak to the owner. Awaaz doesn't argue with an unhappy customer. It takes the details and tells you to call back.

  • Answers your shop number, connected the way we agree on a short call
  • A written transcript of every call in your dashboard
  • Only says what you've given it: your menu, prices and opening times
  • Every order and callback request sent to your WhatsApp

How we set it up for a takeaway

  1. We take your menu: every item, meal, pizza size, sauce and deal with its price, plus your opening hours, ready times and whether you deliver or only do collection.
  2. We connect your line. For UK shops we can set up a local UK number, or you forward your existing shop number to it. We'll check the best way to connect your number on a short call. See setup options.
  3. You test it first. You ring it yourself, order a few things, and we fix anything that doesn't sound right before your customers ever hear it.

Friday, Saturday and match nights

A takeaway's phone isn't busy all day. It's busy in short bursts: Friday and Saturday evenings, and the half hour after a big match ends. That's exactly when there's no one free to answer, and a caller who hears it ring out often just tries the next shop.

Awaaz answers straight away, and it doesn't rush the order because the kitchen's under pressure. It reads the order back every time, so you get fewer wrong orders and fewer arguments at the counter.

Allergy calls go to a person

In the UK, food businesses have to be able to give customers accurate allergen information, and the Food Standards Agency's guidance expects that to come from the business itself. So Awaaz doesn't try to answer allergy questions. It never says a dish is safe or free from anything.

Instead it takes the caller's name and number and what they asked, and sends your team a callback alert. This isn't legal advice, so check the FSA guidance for your own shop.

Who builds it

Awaaz is built by OMA Tech Studio, a small software studio in Lahore, Pakistan. It's the same product Pakistani clinics, hotels and restaurants use to answer their calls in Urdu. For UK shops it answers in British English, and it can switch to Urdu or Punjabi when a caller speaks it.

You talk to the people who built it. Support is over WhatsApp, and menu changes are done the same way.

FAQ

Takeaway owners ask first.

How much does AI phone answering cost for a takeaway?

We quote UK shops in pounds after a short call, because it depends on how many calls you get. It's month to month. See the price panel above, or message us on WhatsApp for a quote.

Will it understand my customers' accents?

It works well on a clear line. If it doesn't catch an item or a name, it asks the caller to repeat it rather than guessing, and it reads the whole order back before it's sent. A very noisy background or a poor mobile signal can still make that harder, just as it would for a person.

What happens when we change the menu or prices?

Send us the change on WhatsApp and we update it. Awaaz only quotes what's on your menu, so a new item or a price rise has to go in before it'll offer it.

Does it work with Just Eat, Uber Eats or Deliveroo?

It doesn't connect to them. If you only do collection, it tells callers who want delivery to order through the apps you're listed on. Phone orders it takes come to you on WhatsApp and in the dashboard.

Can it answer allergy questions?

No, on purpose. It never guarantees a dish is free from an allergen. It takes the caller's details and sends your team a callback request, so a member of staff gives the answer.

Will callers know they're talking to an AI?

It talks like a friendly member of staff and doesn't open by announcing it's an AI. If a caller sincerely asks whether they're speaking to a real person, it says it's the shop's virtual assistant.

Hear it take your shop's orders.

Send us a WhatsApp with your takeaway's name and menu. We'll set up a demo with your items and prices so you can ring it and order yourself.
